China's first red line blue book on ecological protection was released
On 15 August, China's first Blue Book on Red Line of Ecological Protection (2023) was released, which systematically summarised the process, methodology, results and practice cases of fully completing the delineation of the red line of ecological protection, and put forward ideas and suggestions on strengthening the supervision of the red line of ecological protection and improving the red line of ecological protection system.
The total area of China's ecological protection red line is about 3.19 million square kilometres, of which the land ecological protection red line covers about 3.04 million square kilometres, accounting for more than 30% of China's land area, and the marine ecological protection red line covers about 150,000 square kilometres. Through the delineation of the red line of ecological protection, the most important areas of natural ecosystems, the most unique natural landscapes, the most important natural heritages and the richest biodiversity have been comprehensively protected, and large-scale, holistic protection of important natural resources, ecological space, rare and endangered species and habitats has been achieved.
