China's timber imports from north-west Russia up 150 per cent
Timber harvesting in Russia's Northwest Federal District may increase by 10 per cent by the end of this year, according to Roslesinforg; the forestry sector in other regions is also seeing a recovery.
In nine months, the North-West Region produced about 6 million cubic metres of timber, up 1.2% on the same period in 2022, according to Roslesinforg. Of this, almost 4 million cubic metres were exported, increasing its share of the total external supply of Russian timber products to 25.5% from 24% in the same period last year.
Currently, China is the largest buyer of Russian timber from the North-West Federal District. 2.4 million cubic metres of timber were supplied to China in January-September, an increase of 150%.
