EU restricts imports of maple logs and veneers from US

24-09-2023

Until recently, U.S. hard maple veneer could be exported to the European Union as long as it was kiln-dried and certified to satisfy concerns about Davidsoniella virescens (stripe disease). The EU recently changed this regulation to require that maple logs and sliced veneer be "regionally free from the disease," according to the Decorative Hardwood Association.

The result: maple logs originating in New York, Vermont, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina and veneers produced from those logs cannot be certified for shipment to the EU.
