Gabon log production is down 37%! The increase in the price of industrial diesel fuel led to an increase in operating costs
According to the latest report released by DGEPF of Gabon, in the fourth quarter of 2022, its log output measured by index dropped by 37% compared with the previous quarter.
After sustained growth in the first three quarters of last year, in the fourth quarter of 2022, Gabon's log production dropped sharply. The decline is mainly caused by the rising price of industrial diesel oil and the limited transportation volume of log transport trucks, which has greatly increased the operating cost of log logging in Gabon. At the same time, however, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, compared with the same period in 2021, the index declined slightly, at -7.2%.
Although it decreased by 37% compared with the previous quarter, Gabon's log output increased by 16.1% compared with the same period last year. According to the report, this increase in value is very reasonable. Because Gabon has developed new forest areas, it has also maintained good deforestation maintenance.
According to Gabon's 2023 fiscal bill, Gabon hopes to increase production in 2023. In particular, the output of sawn timber, compared with 1.57 million cubic meters of sawn timber in 2021, Gabon hopes this figure can increase by 8% to 1.7 million cubic meters.
