Indonesia continues to ease timber export restrictions
A few days ago, the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia held a socialisation event to socialise two regulations of the Ministry of Trade (Permendag) in the export sector, namely Permendag No. 22 of 2023 and Permendag No. 23 of 2023 on Export Policy and Regulation.
Of these, Permendag No. 22 of 2023 and Permendag No. 23 of 2023 will enter into force on 19 July 2023.The measures provided for in Permendag No. 23 of 2023 include a relaxation of the export cross-sectional area to 1.5 m² from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2024 for several forestry and timber industry products (categories S4S, E2E and E4). From 1 August 2024, the export cross-sectional area for timber products will go back to 1 m² again.
Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the government supports exporters and businessmen to utilise the government's export facilities. He hoped that the government's efforts to revise a number of regulations in the export sector would encourage export performance and facilitate export flows.
"If you are exporting these products, we should not put them in any trouble. Whenever there is trouble, we will help the business players to resolve it quickly. All countries will do this and exporting will become easier. We also regulate goods that must be exported in a finished state, because they provide us with added value, " the Minister of Trade said at the "Socialisation of foreign trade policy in the export sector", which was held on Thursday, 31 August 2023 at the offices of the Ministry of Trade.
According to Zulkifli, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade will endeavour to continue encouraging export performance by providing convenience and legal certainty for business actors. "These two trade regulations are formulated in the spirit of commercial certainty and simplification of business licence administration in the export sector. However, we will always review and evaluate the policies and regulations in the export sector to remain consistent with the spirit of increasing exports", Zulkifli added.
