Putin: It is necessary to give up log exports
Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated the need for a ban on log exports in a January 17 video conference.
"It is necessary to give up exports of logs, raw materials and to send everything to the domestic market," Putin said. High value-added products should be supplied to the internal market. All the objective reasons and capabilities [for banning log exports] are in place and the process should now be accelerated."
Russian plywood production in 2022 has fallen to a 10-year low, according to the latest data released by Russia's Rosstat.
The TASS report also shows that logging in almost all Russian regions has decreased in 2022. At the "Russian Forest" Forum on December 7-9, 2022, Federation Council Deputy Chairman Yuri Vorobyov also made it clear that logging in Russia has decreased by more than 13 percent.
