Sufficient stock of African logs
Gabon is currently in the dry season and rain is not expected before the end of August. This favourable weather supports efficient harvesting activities. Producers report that while the availability of mill workers is not an issue, there are reports of technician shortages.
Milling operations and spare parts imports are proceeding uninterrupted and there are sufficient log stocks (mainly at Oguman) to meet current demand.
Gabonese producers report largely normal order levels, but a slowdown is evident in Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
Weak demand for lightweight timber and ogoumans was reported in China. However demand for ebony (belli), remains stable and demand for bahua (Ovangkol) remains high.
Demand in the Philippines has weakened, with buyers focusing on quality timber from mills offering good quality sawn timber.
Purchases of Middle East Ovangkolman are showing signs of slowing down, but analysts say that there are currently sufficient stocks on arrival.
Demand in Europe is said to be stable, with continued encouraging demand for moabi and douka from the door and furniture industry.
