Vietnam has formally imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese furniture for up to five years
In October 2022, Viet Nam issued Decision No. 1991/QD-BCT, imposing provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 21.4% to 35.2% on some furniture products from China. In February this year, the final anti-dumping ruling was made, declaring that the anti-dumping duty on Chinese furniture would be formally imposed from February 13 for a period of five years.
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam has just issued Decision No. 235/QD-BCT, which imposes official anti-dumping measures on a number of table and chair products from China, and concluded investigations into anti-dumping measures on furniture products from the Malaysian and Chinese markets.
As a result, the official anti-dumping duty on investigated goods from China is 21.4 per cent for chair products and 35.2 per cent for table products.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that during the investigation of the case, in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Trade Administration Law, the ministry of Industry and Trade, together with relevant units, carefully examined and assessed the dumping of imported goods sold and the degree of activity of domestic industries, as well as the dumping level of manufacturers and exporters in Malaysia and China.
Despite the findings of the investigation, the ministry of Industry and Trade decided to terminate the investigation into some Malaysian products and chairs without applying anti-dumping measures in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Trade Administration Act as the proportion of Malaysian imports under investigation was small (less than 3 percent).
The dumping margin of investigated goods from China ranged from 21.4 percent to 35.2 percent, with imports of investigated goods increasing both in absolute and relative terms to domestic consumption and domestic industry output of similar goods. This is the main reason for the significant damage to domestic manufacturing.
