Sweden's final felling notification area increased by 20 per cent in August

    In Sweden, 26,017 hectares were notified for harvesting and licence applications in August, which is a 20 per cent increase compared to August 2022, and of this, 145 hectares compared to 1,117 hectares in 2022 were notified for final harvesting in mountain forests.     This is an increase of 2 per cent compared to the national average area notified and applied for in August over the last five years. This is an increase of 3 per cent compared to the average area over the last ten years.



    The area notified and applied for final logging permits has increased by 19 per cent between January and August compared to the same period last year. So far this year, 9,874 hectares have been applied for final harvesting permits for mountain forests, compared to 4,030 hectares in the same period last year.



    The area notified and applied for has increased by 60 per cent in North Norrland, 7 per cent in South Norrland and 31 per cent in Jotland. However, in Svealand, compared to the first eight months of 2022, this is down by 3 per cent.



    Compared to the national average notification and application area for the first eight months of each of the last five years, this is an increase of 2 per cent. Compared to the last ten years, there has been an increase of 3 per cent.
