U.S. Lumber Prices Remain Low
Lumber prices retreated to the $500 per thousand foot benchmark, hovering near their lowest level since mid-August, on signs of slowing demand.
The latest figures show that US softwood imports from Europe fell to 428 million board feet (mmbf) in the second quarter.
The figure was down 30 per cent from the record 610 mmbf in the first quarter and 12 per cent behind the total for the same period last year.
European exports to the U.S. are expected to maintain their downward trend, at least in the third quarter, below last year's record levels due to rising interest rates and declining production in Europe.
